About
Massimiliano Vizzini
Composer & Multimedia Artist
I'm an Italian composer and multimedia artist based in the Netherlands. I see myself as more than just a composer; I'm a creative who enjoys overseeing various aspects of a composition or project. My passion lies in interdisciplinary work, where I blend visual arts, cinema, and theatrical elements with electronic sound and live musicians.
One of my most important goals is to make contemporary music more accessible to audiences.
In addition to my work as a composer, I am an active visual designer, videomaker, score and audio producer and recording audio engineer.
In 2024, I was awarded a commission at the Gaudeamus Festival to compose a multimedia music piece for piano and interactive video. This work will be performed by pianist Zubin Kanga and will premiere at TivoliVredenburg in Utrecht (NL). Earlier in the year, I was commissioned by the Dutch National Opera & Ballet to compose a new opera production, Goldilocks in Amsterdam, which debuted at the Opera Forward Festival. In 2023, I made my debut in the Netherlands with the multimedia chamber opera, This is Not My U*****E.
The same year, I was commissioned to compose music for the circus show Life², directed by American-Canadian director Daniel Gulko, which was later performed at Maaspodium in Rotterdam. This marked my second circus collaboration that year, following the project Untitled Portrait. In January 2023, I premiered SO Rude, SO Fragile, a self-produced film performance for balloons and clarinet. My work spans various electronic compositions applied to interactive media, including Comp(up-down)uting, SOME.UNIVERSE.SONG, and Weird Fishes.
Currently, I am studying at Codarts in Rotterdam. I spent my first year focusing on film music under the guidance of Paul M. van Brugge and am now completing my second-year master’s degree in classical composition with Robin de Raaff. Prior to this, I studied in Palermo (2018-2021), where I earned a diploma in classical composition and counterpoint with Marco Betta. I also completed a one-year master’s degree in film and video game music at the Santa Cecilia Conservatory in Rome (2022).
